Bahrain has strongly condemned what it described as a renewed Iranian missile and drone attack on its territory, accusing Tehran of carrying out a deliberate campaign against the kingdom’s sovereignty and regional security.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the latest attack involved ballistic missiles and drones, calling it a serious escalation that demonstrated Iran’s actions were not isolated incidents but part of a repeated pattern of aggression targeting the Gulf nation.
The ministry said the assault came despite previous international criticism of Iran’s actions and earlier commitments made by Tehran to halt military operations. Bahraini officials argued that the latest strike confirmed warnings that Iran had continued its hostile activities despite diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions.
According to the statement, Bahrain had already condemned an earlier Iranian attack, accusing Tehran of violating its international obligations and ignoring the consensus reflected in United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817. Officials said Sunday’s attack reinforced concerns that Iran had failed to honor its commitments and continued to threaten regional stability.
The ministry also claimed the latest operation violated the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, under which Iran had agreed to permanently end military operations and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries in the region. Bahrain said Iran alone bears responsibility for breaching those commitments and undermining ongoing efforts to ease tensions.
Bahraini authorities stressed that the repeated attacks would not alter the country’s position or weaken its determination to protect its citizens and national security. The government said the latest strike removed any remaining justification for Iran’s actions and demonstrated clear intent to continue military aggression.
Bahrain called on the United Nations Security Council to convene an emergency session to address the situation. It urged the council to ensure the implementation of Resolution 2817, bring an end to what it described as ongoing Iranian aggression, and hold those responsible accountable under international law.
The kingdom also warned that the repeated attacks posed a threat not only to Bahrain but to the wider Gulf region. Citing the Gulf Cooperation Council’s joint defense agreement, the ministry noted that an attack on one member state is regarded as an attack on all members of the bloc.
The latest accusations add to growing tensions between Bahrain and Iran at a time when regional security remains fragile. No immediate response from Iranian authorities regarding Bahrain’s latest allegations had been reported at the time of the ministry’s statement.
