Google has unveiled a major expansion of its artificial intelligence strategy with the introduction of Gemini Intelligence for Android, a new system designed to automate everyday smartphone tasks and make interactions with mobile devices more natural.
The announcement was made during the company’s Android Show event, where Google outlined how its Gemini AI models will now be integrated more deeply into the Android operating system. The company said the new features aim to reduce repetitive actions and allow users to complete complex tasks more quickly across multiple applications.
One of the headline additions is multi-step task automation. Instead of manually moving between apps, users will be able to ask Gemini to complete connected actions automatically. Google demonstrated how the AI could locate a university course syllabus in Gmail, identify required textbooks and place them into an online shopping cart without the user needing to switch applications repeatedly.
The company said the system will still require user confirmation before final purchases or bookings are completed.
Gemini Intelligence will also introduce improved screen awareness. By pressing and holding the power button, users can ask the AI assistant to interact with content currently displayed on their screens. In one example shown during the presentation, Gemini converted a handwritten grocery list into an online food delivery order. Another demonstration showed the AI analysing a travel brochure image and searching the internet for similar holiday packages.
Google also confirmed that Gemini features will be integrated into Google Chrome on Android devices later this year. Planned capabilities include summarising webpages, comparing information across multiple sites and carrying out tasks such as reserving parking spaces or booking appointments online.
Another new feature introduced is Rambler, an AI-powered voice-to-text tool designed to make dictation sound more natural. Unlike conventional transcription systems that capture pauses, filler words and repetitions, Rambler is intended to clean up spoken input while maintaining the user’s original tone and writing style.
Google said the feature will also support multilingual speech within the same message, allowing users to switch between languages naturally during dictation.
Android users will also gain access to a new tool called “Create My Widget,” which uses AI to generate customised phone widgets based on simple text descriptions entered by the user.
The rollout of Gemini Intelligence is scheduled to begin this summer, initially arriving on the latest Samsung Electronics Galaxy smartphones and Google Pixel devices.
Google said the technology will later expand beyond smartphones to include smartwatches, cars, laptops and smart glasses as part of its broader effort to build AI-powered ecosystems across consumer devices.
The launch marks another step in the growing competition among major technology companies to embed artificial intelligence directly into everyday consumer hardware and software experiences.
