UAE Condemns Houthi Attacks on Riyadh Airport as Airlines Extend Saudi Flight Cancellations

The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned continued Houthi attacks targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, following strikes over the weekend that killed at least 14 people and injured hundreds.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the attacks and reaffirmed the country’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia. The ministry also expressed support for all measures taken by the kingdom to protect its security and stability.

The UAE extended its wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured in the attacks, which have heightened security concerns and disrupted air travel across parts of Saudi Arabia.

The Houthis have claimed responsibility for attacks targeting Riyadh airport on Saturday and Sunday, as well as an airport in Dammam. The incidents have prompted Saudi authorities to suspend airport operations and international airlines to revise their flight schedules.

Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority has extended the suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport following the attacks. The disruption has affected passengers travelling to and from the kingdom’s major cities, with airlines announcing additional cancellations.

Dubai-based flydubai and Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways are among the carriers that have extended their suspensions of services to Saudi destinations.

A flydubai spokesperson said flights to Abha, Dammam and Riyadh had been cancelled up to and including October 14. The airline’s decision affects passengers travelling to three Saudi cities as aviation authorities continue to respond to the security situation.

Etihad Airways has also extended cancellations on flights between Abu Dhabi and Dammam, Jeddah and Riyadh for October 12 and 13.

The latest cancellations follow earlier disruptions to regional air services as airlines assess security risks and follow instructions from aviation authorities. Passengers have been advised to check directly with their airlines for the latest information about flight schedules and rebooking arrangements.

The attacks have added to concerns over the security of critical infrastructure and civilian aviation in the region. Airports serve as major transport links for residents, international travellers and business activity, making prolonged closures disruptive for passengers and the wider economy.

The UAE’s statement underscored its support for Saudi Arabia as the kingdom responds to the attacks. Abu Dhabi and Riyadh maintain close ties, and the UAE said it stood firmly with its neighbour in efforts to safeguard national security and regional stability.

The duration of the airport suspension and the wider impact on regional flight operations remain dependent on security assessments and decisions by the relevant authorities.
