Oman and India have reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation after senior officials held talks covering regional security, maritime safety and the expansion of economic ties, with particular attention given to developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi met Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Muscat on Friday during Jaishankar’s official visit to the Gulf nation. The discussions focused on recent regional and international developments, including the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes.
The two ministers reviewed the latest developments affecting navigation through the strategic waterway, which serves as a critical passage for global energy exports and international trade. They also examined the potential impact of disruptions in the area on worldwide supply chains, energy markets and commercial shipping.
Both sides stressed the need for continued consultation and close coordination as regional tensions continue to affect maritime security. They voiced support for dialogue and cooperation among all parties concerned, while emphasising the importance of respecting international law and protecting the shared interests of countries in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz carries a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports, making stability in the area a priority for both energy producers and importing nations. Recent security concerns have drawn international attention because any disruption to shipping through the narrow waterway can affect fuel prices and global trade flows.
Alongside regional security issues, the ministers discussed ways to strengthen the long-standing strategic partnership between Oman and India. Economic cooperation featured prominently during the talks, with both countries exploring opportunities to expand trade, attract greater investment and deepen collaboration across several key sectors.
Energy remained a major focus of the discussions, reflecting the strong commercial relationship between the two countries. The ministers also examined prospects for increased cooperation in logistics, an area considered essential for boosting regional connectivity and supporting international commerce.
Emerging technologies also formed part of the agenda as both governments seek to diversify their economic partnerships and encourage innovation-driven growth. Officials reviewed possibilities for collaboration in advanced technology sectors that could support future economic development.
India and Oman have maintained close diplomatic and economic ties for decades, supported by extensive trade links and a large Indian expatriate community living in the Sultanate. Bilateral cooperation has continued to expand across areas including energy, infrastructure, maritime affairs and investment.
Friday’s meeting highlighted both countries’ shared interest in maintaining stability in the Gulf while pursuing stronger economic cooperation. The talks also reflected their commitment to working together on regional challenges and strengthening partnerships that support trade, investment and long-term economic growth.
