Dubai-based airline flydubai has extended the cancellation of flights to several destinations in Saudi Arabia, including Abha, Dammam and Riyadh, until and including October 24, citing the ongoing regional situation.
The airline said some disruption to its scheduled operations to the Kingdom was expected to continue, with passengers advised to check for updates before travelling.
“Due to the ongoing situation, we expect some disruption to our scheduled operations to Saudi Arabia. Flights to a number of destinations in the Kingdom, including Abha, Dammam and Riyadh, have been cancelled up to and including October 24,” a flydubai spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that the airline was monitoring developments closely and would inform customers of any changes to its flight schedules through its official communication channels.
Passengers have been advised to check their flight status regularly and ensure their contact details are up to date so they can receive the latest information about cancellations or schedule changes.
The latest announcement follows several extensions to the airline’s suspension of services to Saudi destinations. In its previous update, flydubai said flights to Abha, Dammam and Riyadh would remain cancelled until October 19.
On October 9, the airline announced that services to Riyadh and Yanbu had been cancelled until October 10, while flights to Abha were suspended until October 11. The cancellations were subsequently extended, with Riyadh services halted until October 14 before Abha and Dammam were also included in the suspension through that date.
The continued changes reflect the impact of the regional security situation on airline operations and travel plans between the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi, also announced on Sunday that flights to Saudi cities had been cancelled until October 24 because of the situation in the region.
Airlines operating services to Saudi Arabia have faced significant disruption following a series of Houthi attacks on airports, according to the source material. The incidents have prompted carriers to cancel flights, suspend services and warn passengers that schedules could change at short notice.
Travellers planning to fly between the UAE and Saudi Arabia are being urged to confirm their bookings directly with their airlines before heading to the airport. Passengers with affected reservations should follow official airline updates for information on revised schedules and available travel arrangements.
Flydubai said it would continue to monitor developments and communicate any further changes to customers through its official channels.
