Some Emirates NBD customers reported difficulties accessing mobile banking services on Thursday as the bank carried out temporary maintenance on its digital platform.
Customers attempting to use the ENBD X mobile banking app were notified of a maintenance activity that affected some services. The bank displayed a message informing users that they could experience interruptions while using the application.
“Due to a temporary maintenance activity, you may experience an interruption on ENBD X services. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the message said.
Although customers were generally able to log into the application, some functions inside the app were unavailable or failed to load. Users attempting to access affected services were shown another notification saying: “We could not process your request now. Please try later. If the problem continues, please contact customer care.”
The disruption affected several banking functions, with customers also receiving a separate notification that direct remit transfers and utility bill payments were temporarily unavailable.
The issues appeared to be linked to the maintenance activity rather than a complete outage of the mobile banking application. Customers could still access the app in some cases, but the availability of individual services varied.
The disruption was also reflected on Downdetector.com, an outage-monitoring website that tracks user reports of problems with online services. The website showed reports from users experiencing difficulties with the Emirates NBD app, fund transfers and mobile banking during the previous 24 hours.
Digital banking services have become a key channel for customers to manage everyday financial transactions, including transfers, bill payments and remittances. Temporary interruptions can therefore affect a range of services even when customers are still able to access their accounts.
Emirates NBD has not indicated that the disruption was caused by a security incident or provided details on the specific maintenance work being carried out. The messages displayed to customers described the interruption as temporary.
Customers experiencing continued problems were advised through the app to try again later or contact the bank’s customer care service.
The duration of the disruption and the time required for all affected services to return to normal were not immediately clear. Customers were expected to receive access to the affected functions once the maintenance activity was completed.
