Qantas Reports Profit Growth, Announces First Dividend Payout Since 2019

Australian airline Qantas reported a 6% rise in distributable profits for the first half of the current fiscal year, reaching 923 million Australian dollars ($579 million USD). The company credited the increase to a 10% boost in passenger numbers across its domestic and international routes, as well as the strong performance of its low-cost subsidiary, Jetstar Airways.

In a sign of financial strength, Qantas announced its first cash dividend distribution since 2019. Shareholders will receive a total payout of AU$400 million, comprising a base dividend of AU$250 million and a special dividend of AU$150 million.

Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson outlined plans for a major cabin refurbishment program, which will see upgrades to 42 aircraft within the airline’s 737-strong fleet. Hudson emphasized that Qantas’ strong financial performance enables the company to reinvest in fleet improvements and enhance the overall customer experience.

Looking ahead, the airline remains optimistic about demand for air travel in the second half of the fiscal year. The company forecasts domestic revenue growth of 3-5%, while international revenues are expected to remain stable.

Qantas also reported operating profits before taxes of AU$1.385 billion, reflecting an AU$140 million increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, total revenues climbed from AU$11.127 billion to AU$12.129 billion over the same period.

With a solid financial outlook and ongoing investments in fleet upgrades, Qantas is positioning itself for sustained growth amid a strong travel market.
