Iranian Strikes Target Kuwait Power and Water Facilities, Authorities Say

Iranian strikes on Kuwait have targeted critical electricity and water infrastructure, with the country’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy reporting damage to a power generation and water desalination facility.

The ministry described the incident as a “criminal Iranian attack” and said the strike triggered a fire at the facility. Several power generation units were taken offline as a precaution to protect the site and maintain stability across the national electricity grid.

Emergency response procedures were activated following the attack, while firefighting and repair teams continued working at the affected facility, authorities said.

The ministry also called on residents to reduce electricity consumption, particularly between 11am and 5pm, as recovery operations continued. Officials said conserving power during peak hours would help ease pressure on the national grid while damaged infrastructure was being assessed and restored.

The latest incident occurred a day after another strike reportedly damaged a power generation and water desalination station in Kuwait. That attack also caused a fire and forced authorities to temporarily shut down several electricity generation units.

Kuwait’s Fire Force separately reported that its teams were dealing with two fires at different locations following recent Iranian attacks. Five firefighting teams, supported by units from the oil sector, were sent to the first site, while three teams were dispatched to the second location.

Several firefighters and one worker were injured while crews were battling the fire at the first site, according to the fire service. The affected area was evacuated, and those injured were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The incidents have raised concerns over the security of Kuwait’s vital infrastructure as tensions in the region continue to escalate. Kuwait’s army said it was also responding to hostile drone threats and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and follow official safety and security instructions.

The disruption has also affected air travel. Kuwait Airways announced that it was rescheduling most flights after the country’s airspace was closed on July 18.

The attacks come amid renewed tensions between the United States and Iran, following a fragile ceasefire established after a peace memorandum aimed at ending the conflict that began on February 28.

Kuwaiti authorities have continued to activate emergency measures in response to the attacks, while urging residents to rely on official information and cooperate with safety instructions. The latest damage to power and water facilities has added to concerns about maintaining essential services during the ongoing regional crisis.
