Pakistan Embassy in Qatar Suspends Passport Services Due to Technical Issues

The Embassy of Pakistan in Qatar has temporarily suspended passport processing services at its premises, citing technical difficulties at Passport Headquarters in Islamabad.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the embassy said the suspension would remain in effect until further notice. The announcement was made through the embassy’s official social media channels, where officials apologised for the inconvenience caused to Pakistani nationals in Qatar.

According to the embassy, the disruption is linked to technical problems affecting passport operations at the central passport authority in Islamabad. No timeline has yet been provided for when services will resume.

“The resumption of passport services will be announced on our social media platforms,” the embassy said in its notice, urging applicants to monitor official updates for further information.

The suspension in Qatar follows a similar announcement earlier this week by the Embassy of Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, which also temporarily halted passport processing services. Officials there cited technical and maintenance-related issues as the reason for the disruption.

Pakistani nationals in the UAE have been advised to apply for passport renewals and new documents through the online passport portal where possible. Those unable to use the online system have been asked to wait until normal services resume.

The embassy in the UAE said it would notify the community immediately once passport processing operations are restored.

The temporary interruptions have affected a large number of Pakistani expatriates in the Gulf region, where demand for consular services remains consistently high. Pakistan has sizeable overseas communities in both Qatar and the UAE, many of whom rely on embassy services for passport renewals, legal documentation and other official matters.

In a separate advisory issued earlier, the Pakistani Embassy in Abu Dhabi announced that it would remain closed on May 1 in observance of Labour Day. Regular operations were scheduled to resume on Monday, May 4.

The latest suspension highlights the dependence of overseas missions on centralised systems in Islamabad for document processing. Technical issues at the headquarters can have immediate consequences for Pakistan’s diplomatic missions abroad, particularly in countries with large expatriate populations.

Embassy officials have urged applicants to avoid visiting the mission for passport-related services until an official announcement confirms the restoration of operations. They have also encouraged the public to rely only on verified embassy communication channels for updates.

For now, Pakistani citizens in Qatar awaiting passport services will need to remain patient as authorities work to resolve the technical problems.
