Apple Releases iOS 26.4 With New Features, but Siri Upgrade Delayed

Apple has officially rolled out iOS 26.4 to the general public, introducing a range of new features and improvements across its ecosystem. However, the update arrives without a major change many users had been expecting: a revamped Siri voice assistant.

Despite earlier speculation, the latest software does not include the next-generation version of Siri. This suggests Apple may introduce the upgraded assistant in iOS 26.5 or delay it further until iOS 27 later this year. The absence of the update has become a key talking point among users anticipating more advanced artificial intelligence features.

Even without the Siri overhaul, iOS 26.4 brings several notable additions, particularly to Apple Music. A new feature called Playlist Playground, currently in beta, allows users to create playlists using simple text prompts, automatically generating titles and tracklists. The app also introduces a Concerts feature, which helps users discover nearby live events based on their listening habits.

Another addition is offline music recognition, enabling users to identify songs without an internet connection, with results appearing once the device reconnects. An ambient music widget has also been added, offering curated playlists for sleep, relaxation, productivity, and wellbeing. Visual enhancements, including full-screen album and playlist backgrounds, aim to make the listening experience more immersive.

Apple has also expanded its accessibility features. A new “Reduce bright effects” option minimizes flashing elements in the interface, while improved subtitle controls make it easier for users to adjust captions when watching content. Updates to the “Reduce Motion” setting provide smoother handling of animations, particularly within Apple’s Liquid Glass interface design.

The update includes a selection of smaller enhancements across the system. Eight new emoji have been added, featuring designs such as an orca, trombone, ballet dancer, landslide, and a distorted face. Apple has also introduced improvements to its Freeform app, including enhanced image creation tools and access to a premium content library through Apple Creator Studio.

Additional changes include the ability to mark reminders as urgent, improved filtering options, and updates to Purchase Sharing that allow family members to use their own payment methods. Apple says keyboard accuracy has also been improved, particularly for users typing quickly.

Users who have not yet received the update automatically can install it manually through the Settings app under General and Software Update. Apple recommends connecting to Wi-Fi and ensuring sufficient battery life before starting the process.

While iOS 26.4 delivers a broad set of updates, attention remains focused on what is missing. With Apple expected to highlight artificial intelligence developments at upcoming events, including its annual developer conference, many users may now have to wait longer for a significantly upgraded Siri experience.
