TikTok Returns to US App Stores Amid Temporary Ban Delay

TikTok is once again available for download on Apple and Google’s app stores in the United States after the enforcement of a nationwide ban was temporarily postponed. The short-video platform, which has 170 million users in the country, began restoring its services after weeks of suspension.

The delay comes after former President Donald Trump issued an executive order last month, pushing back the ban for 75 days. The order grants ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, temporary permission to continue operations while negotiations over its future continue.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Trump indicated that the deadline could be extended further, stating that there remains hope for a deal that would allow TikTok to remain in the U.S. market.

TikTok was briefly banned last month before a law went into effect on January 19, requiring ByteDance to divest its ownership of the app or face a permanent ban due to national security concerns. The U.S. government has long expressed worries that TikTok’s Chinese ties could pose risks to American user data, though the company has denied any wrongdoing.

As discussions over TikTok’s fate continue, the platform remains operational—for now—giving its millions of American users a reprieve from uncertainty.
