Qatar Announces Eid Al-Fitr 2026 Holiday Dates for Public Sector

Amiri Diwan has announced the official holiday schedule for Eid al-Fitr in 2026 for government institutions across Qatar.

According to a statement carried by Qatar News Agency, the break for ministries, government agencies, public bodies, and other state institutions will begin on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

The holiday will continue until Monday, March 23, 2026. Government employees are scheduled to return to work on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, marking the end of the extended public sector break.

The announcement clarifies that the holiday period applies to most government offices and state-run institutions. The schedule allows public sector workers to observe Eid Al-Fitr, one of the most significant religious celebrations in the Islamic calendar, which marks the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.

Authorities also addressed the arrangements for the country’s financial sector. The statement said that the Governor of Qatar Central Bank will determine the specific holiday period for the central bank itself as well as for financial institutions operating under its supervision.

In addition, the governor will decide the Eid holiday schedule for the Qatar Financial Markets Authority and financial markets regulated by the authority.

Eid Al-Fitr holidays in Qatar often vary between sectors because financial institutions, trading platforms, and banking operations must coordinate with regional and international markets. The responsibility given to the central bank governor ensures that banking services and financial activities can be adjusted appropriately during the holiday period.

Eid Al-Fitr is celebrated across the Muslim world with communal prayers, family gatherings, and charitable giving. In Gulf countries including Qatar, the occasion is typically marked by extended holidays for public sector employees, allowing residents to travel or spend time with relatives.

While the dates for the public sector are confirmed, private sector companies in Qatar may follow separate schedules depending on company policy and labour regulations.

The announcement provides early clarity for government employees planning their holiday period in 2026. As Ramadan approaches, authorities in Qatar are expected to issue additional guidance related to working hours, public services, and Eid celebrations across the country.

With the official holiday calendar now announced, ministries and government agencies will begin preparing for reduced operations during the week-long break before services resume at the end of March.
