Qatar and Hungary Strengthen Ties During High-Level Talks in Budapest

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Budapest on Thursday for a session of talks aimed at deepening bilateral relations and exploring avenues for expanded cooperation.

Prime Minister Orbán welcomed the Qatari delegation, expressing optimism that the visit would further solidify the ties between Qatar and Hungary. He also lauded Qatar’s mediation efforts in Gaza, which facilitated the release of several prisoners and detainees, highlighting the country’s role in fostering peace and stability in the region.

In response, Sheikh Mohammed expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reiterated Qatar’s commitment to its strong partnership with Hungary. He emphasized the robust foundation of cooperation between the two nations and underscored the potential to enhance collaboration in various sectors.

“Qatar remains steadfast in its dedication to advancing mutual interests with Hungary and Europe, working together to promote international security and peace,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

During the discussions, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and identified areas for strengthened cooperation, including the economy, tourism, culture, agriculture, energy, technology, and the development of Budapest Airport. They also explored opportunities for collaboration between their diplomatic institutes and in international organizations.

Regional and global issues of mutual interest were also on the agenda, reflecting the two nations’ shared commitment to addressing pressing global challenges.

The session was attended by senior officials and ministers from both Qatar and Hungary, including members of the official delegation accompanying Sheikh Mohammed.

The visit began with an official reception ceremony for the Qatari Prime Minister in Budapest, underscoring the significance of the talks.

The meeting reflects Qatar’s ongoing strategy to foster international partnerships and Hungary’s interest in enhancing ties with key players in the Gulf region. With a focus on areas such as energy and technology, the dialogue aligns with broader efforts to advance sustainable development and economic diversification in both countries.
