Silk Road Samarkand, Central Asia’s largest tourist complex, has introduced its latest attraction – Waterland, a vast family-friendly water park aimed at providing an exciting experience for visitors of all ages. The newly opened aqua park, inaugurated by Rustam Kobilov, the deputy governor of the Samarkand region for tourism, culture, cultural heritage, and mass communications, marks another significant development in the region’s growing tourism infrastructure.
Covering an area of 11,536 square meters, Waterland boasts 18 water slides and various attractions, ensuring a full day of fun for families. The park also features a food court and a children’s play area, making it a well-rounded destination for local and international visitors. Admission to Waterland is complimentary for guests staying at any of the eight hotels within the Silk Road Samarkand complex. Local families can enjoy discounted rates, with free entry for children under six and half-price tickets for those aged 7-16.
Located on the outskirts of the ancient city of Samarkand, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Silk Road Samarkand spans 260 hectares and is built around the Republican Rowing Canal. Since its opening two years ago, the complex has quickly become a key tourism hub, offering luxury accommodations and a wide range of facilities. The resort includes eight luxury hotels with nearly 1,200 rooms, an international congress centre, a 4,000-square-meter expo centre, sports arenas, and parks. With over 30 dining options, Silk Road Samarkand caters to both leisure and business travellers.
In addition to Waterland, the resort continues to expand its offerings. Recent additions include new dining venues, craft workshops selling traditional handmade goods, and the Qur’an Museum, which houses manuscripts and significant Islamic literature from around the world. There’s also a 300-meter karting track for enthusiasts aged 14 and over and expanded playgrounds for younger visitors.
Silk Road Samarkand has already hosted more than two dozen international events, including high-profile gatherings like the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) annual meeting and the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The complex has also attracted major brands, with Hilton Hotels & Resorts rebranding three of its hotels within the site.
Part of Uzbekistan’s broader tourism strategy, Silk Road Samarkand aims to blend modern amenities with Samarkand’s rich cultural heritage, making it a premier destination for global travellers.
