Etihad Airways announced on Tuesday that it carried 1.7 million passengers in August, achieving a strong average passenger load factor of 89%, reflecting robust performance during the busy summer travel season.
Year-to-date, the Abu Dhabi-based airline has welcomed 12 million passengers, marking a 36% increase compared to the same period last year. By the end of August 2024, Etihad’s rolling 12-month passenger count surpassed 17 million—an impressive rise of nearly 70% compared to the full year of 2022.
The airline’s passenger load factor remained steady at 89% in August, even as it expanded its capacity. Etihad’s operating fleet grew to 95 aircraft, up from 79 during the same period last year. In August, the airline introduced the final two of six A321neo aircraft expected this year. Furthermore, Etihad now services 10 more passenger destinations than it did at this time in 2023.
Etihad Airways’ CEO, Antonoaldo Neves, highlighted the significance of the airline’s performance during the holiday season. “Our passenger numbers in August increased significantly compared to the same period last year, demonstrating our continued growth momentum. This robust performance, particularly during the holiday period, underscores the growing preference for Etihad among travellers,” Neves said.
He credited the airline’s ability to expand its fleet by 16 aircraft over the past year to the dedication of the Etihad team. “This expansion enhances our network and supports Abu Dhabi’s position as a global aviation hub and as a major destination for tourists from around the world,” he added.
Etihad Airways’ ongoing fleet and route expansion is expected to further solidify its standing as a leading international carrier, positioning Abu Dhabi as a key player in global aviation. With a continued focus on increasing capacity and maintaining high passenger load factors, Etihad is well-positioned for sustained growth as travel demand continues to recover globally.
The airline’s ability to navigate challenges and scale operations has also contributed to its ongoing success, with the carrier poised to capitalize on future growth opportunities within the aviation sector.
