UAEV Announces New EV Charging Tariffs, Plans Major Expansion

The government-owned electric vehicle (EV) charging network UAEV announced on Thursday that new charging tariffs will take effect in January 2025. The updated pricing will set DC chargers at Dh1.20 per kWh, plus VAT, and AC chargers at Dh0.70 per kWh, plus VAT.

This marks the first implementation of tariffs for UAEV’s charging services, which have remained free since their introduction in May. The move is intended to ensure the sustainability and scalability of the EV charging infrastructure, aligning with the UAE’s broader environmental goals.

In addition to the revised pricing, UAEV is rolling out a mobile application to enhance the user experience. The app will feature tools such as locating the nearest charging station, live status updates of chargers, and simplified payment options. To further support users, the network is launching a 24/7 call center to provide real-time assistance.

“The implementation of standardised charging tariffs and the launch of innovative solutions like the UAEV app and 24/7 support reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing the EV driver experience,” said Sharif Al Olama, Chairman of UAEV. “By expanding our network and aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy, we are driving a cleaner, greener future for all.”

Looking ahead, UAEV plans to expand its network significantly. By 2030, the network will feature 1,000 charging stations strategically placed across urban hubs, highways, and key transit points in all emirates. This expansion aims to ensure accessibility for both inter-city and intra-city EV users, bolstering the infrastructure needed to meet growing demand for electric vehicles.

The initiative is part of the UAE’s broader efforts to support its Net Zero 2050 Strategy, which emphasizes reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable energy use. With the introduction of tariffs and innovative user support systems, UAEV aims to set a benchmark for efficient and accessible EV charging solutions in the region.

The combination of competitive pricing, technological integration, and a robust expansion plan positions UAEV to play a key role in advancing the UAE’s electric mobility landscape.
