UAE Announces Lower Fuel Prices for January 2026

The UAE on Wednesday (December 31) announced the fuel prices for January 2026, with the Fuel Prices Monitoring Committee reducing rates for the first month of the new year. The move brings relief to residents as they start 2026 amid fluctuations in global oil markets.

“The approved fuel prices by the Ministry of Energy are determined every month, according to the average global price of oil, whether up or down, after adding the operating costs of distribution companies,” the ministry said in a statement.

The new rates, effective from January 1, mean that drivers will pay significantly less for petrol compared to December 2025. Depending on the type of vehicle, filling a full tank in January will cost between Dh8.67 and Dh12.58 less than last month, offering tangible savings for commuters and businesses alike.

The Fuel Prices Monitoring Committee, which reviews and sets fuel rates each month, considers both international oil prices and local operational costs before approving any changes. The mechanism ensures that fuel costs in the UAE remain closely linked to global market trends while balancing the operational requirements of distribution companies.

The decrease in prices comes after a period of moderate volatility in the global oil market. Analysts said that falling crude prices, combined with the UAE’s careful monitoring of distribution costs, contributed to the reduction. Lower fuel costs are expected to ease living expenses for households and reduce operating costs for logistics and transport companies.

Residents and businesses welcomed the announcement. Several motorists interviewed in Dubai said the reduction would make a noticeable difference in monthly expenditures. “It’s good to start the year with lower fuel prices. Even a small decrease adds up over time, especially for families and delivery drivers,” said one commuter.

In recent years, the UAE has maintained a transparent system for adjusting fuel prices. Each month, the Ministry of Energy calculates rates based on the global benchmark prices for gasoline and diesel, then applies a formula that includes distribution costs. This approach has provided consistency and predictability for both consumers and businesses operating in the country.

Industry experts noted that while the reduction in fuel prices is modest, it reflects broader global trends. The UAE continues to monitor international oil markets and adjust domestic prices to ensure fairness and stability. Analysts said that as long as global oil prices remain stable, residents can expect similar adjustments in the coming months.

With January rates now set, drivers across the UAE will benefit from lower petrol bills, marking a positive start to 2026. The reduction underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining a transparent and responsive fuel pricing system that aligns with global energy trends while supporting the local economy.
