UAE Airlines Suspend Flights to Pakistan Amid Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions

UAE-based airlines have extended flight suspensions to and from Pakistan as tensions continue to mount between India and Pakistan following the launch of Operation Sindoor by New Delhi on May 7 and Pakistan’s subsequent military response.

Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority announced on Saturday that the country’s airspace would remain closed for at least 24 more hours. The closure has forced multiple UAE carriers—including Emirates, Etihad Airways, Air Arabia, and flydubai—to cancel dozens of flights scheduled through May 13.

Emirates Cancels Extensive Pakistan Routes

Dubai-based Emirates Airline confirmed the cancellation of several flights to Lahore, Islamabad, Sialkot, Peshawar, and Karachi through May 12, citing “ongoing uncertainty surrounding access to Pakistan’s airspace and airports.” Affected flights include multiple services on the Lahore-Dubai, Islamabad-Dubai, and Karachi-Dubai routes.

The airline advised passengers affected by cancellations to stay updated through its official channels and avoid traveling to the airport without confirmed travel arrangements.

Etihad Airways Suspends Pakistan Services

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways also suspended several flights on May 10 connecting Abu Dhabi to major Pakistani cities including Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore. The airline stated that it would not accept transiting passengers whose onward journeys to Pakistan were cancelled unless they had made alternative arrangements.

This remains an evolving situation and further changes or disruptions may occur,” a spokesperson told Khaleej Times, adding that the airline is “actively supporting affected guests with rebooking and alternative travel options.”

Air Arabia and flydubai Join in Suspension

Sharjah-based Air Arabia also announced a suspension of its services to Pakistan until at least May 13. “Due to current events, flights to Pakistan are temporarily suspended,” the airline said in a statement, urging passengers to check for updates on its official platforms.

Flydubai, meanwhile, cancelled all flights to Pakistan and Afghanistan scheduled for May 10 and 11, citing “operational reasons.” A spokesperson said the airline continues to monitor the situation closely and apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers.

Tensions Rise Across Region

The wave of cancellations follows a significant uptick in military activity between India and Pakistan. Since the launch of India’s Operation Sindoor earlier in the week, both nations have exchanged fire along the Line of Control. The UAE has joined other nations in urging restraint and calling for de-escalation in the region.

Travellers are strongly advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport and to stay informed through official websites and customer service channels.
