Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) has unveiled the largest 220 kV substation in its network, located in the airport area of Umm Fannin. The project, which cost over Dh500 million, is a significant step toward enhancing Sharjah’s energy infrastructure.
The substation was developed in partnership with Siemens Energy and General Projects Company for Mechanical and Electrical Contracting. According to Hamad Al-Tunaiji, Director of Energy Transmission, SEWA remains dedicated to expanding and modernizing the emirate’s power transmission and distribution networks. The facility was constructed to meet the highest international standards, ensuring efficiency, quality, and sustainability.
Equipped with four 400 MVA transformers (220/132 kV) and four 75 MVA transformers (132/33 kV), the substation boasts a total capacity exceeding 1,200 MW. This upgrade will significantly enhance electricity distribution across vital areas in Sharjah, catering to the city’s growing energy needs while improving grid reliability and flexibility.
Beyond strengthening the electrical infrastructure, the new substation is expected to support economic and urban development in the emirate, ensuring a stable power supply for future expansion.
Abdullah Al-Koos, Deputy Director of Energy Transmission, emphasized that the project marks a major milestone for SEWA, reinforcing its commitment to providing a modern and reliable energy network for Sharjah.
