ICAI Doha Chapter Hosts Annual General Meeting, Focuses on Green Finance

The Doha chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) recently held its 43rd Annual General Meeting, where members adopted financial accounts and elected a new committee using a digital voting system. The event was followed by a symposium on green and sustainable bonds and sukuk, reflecting the growing focus on sustainable finance in Qatar.

Gaurav Kakkar, Head of Advisory and Sustainability Lead at Moore, delivered a keynote speech emphasizing the increasing relevance of financial instruments that promote environmental and social responsibility. He highlighted the role of green and sustainable bonds and sukuk in financing projects that contribute to economic and environmental sustainability in Qatar.

“These instruments are set to play a pivotal role in driving Qatar’s green finance agenda, supporting the country’s vision for sustainability,” Kakkar stated.

Recognition for Excellence

The ICAI Doha chapter also announced that it has been awarded the Silver Medal for Best Overseas Chapter (Category II: 101-500 Members) for 2024 by ICAI. The accolade recognizes the chapter’s commitment to maintaining high professional standards, fostering knowledge exchange, and contributing to the advancement of the accounting and finance profession in Qatar.

“This recognition is a testament to our continuous efforts in strengthening Indo-Qatar professional and business ties, in alignment with the strong bilateral relations between the two nations,” the chapter said in a statement.

The award was presented at ICAI’s annual function on February 2, 2025, at the Yashobhoomi India International Convention and Expo Centre in New Delhi, during the World Forum of Accountants (WOFA).

The ICAI Doha chapter remains committed to advancing sustainability initiatives and fostering collaboration between professionals in Qatar and India.
