Google Cloud has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Qatar’s long-term national development through strategic investments that align closely with the country’s Qatar National Vision 2030.
Ghassan Kosta, Regional General Manager for Google Cloud in Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and Iraq, said the company’s efforts in the region are “fundamentally aligned with and designed to support” the ambitious national roadmap, which focuses on economic diversification, innovation, and a knowledge-based society.
Speaking about Google Cloud’s presence in the country, Kosta pointed to two major initiatives as evidence of the tech giant’s ongoing commitment: the establishment of the Doha cloud region and the launch of Google Cloud’s Centre of Excellence.
“These are tangible commitments to empowering the nation’s digital future,” Kosta said.
The Doha cloud region, launched in 2023, marked a significant milestone in Qatar’s digital infrastructure development. It enables local businesses, government entities, and startups to access cutting-edge cloud services with improved speed, scalability, and data security—while keeping data residency in-country, a critical factor for many public and private sector organizations.
Meanwhile, the Google Cloud Centre of Excellence was developed to foster digital skills, promote innovation, and support Qatari organizations in accelerating their digital transformation journeys. The center offers training, certification, and advisory services designed to equip the local workforce with high-demand cloud skills.
These investments support key pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in building a diversified and competitive economy driven by digital technology, sustainability, and human capital development.
Google Cloud’s expansion in Qatar also reflects the broader trend of global tech firms strengthening their presence in the Middle East, as regional governments invest heavily in digital transformation, cybersecurity, and smart infrastructure.
“Our mission is to help Qatar achieve its long-term goals by bringing the power of Google Cloud to every sector of the economy,” Kosta said.
As the nation continues to invest in digital transformation, partnerships like that with Google Cloud are expected to play a critical role in shaping Qatar’s innovation ecosystem in the years ahead.
