Bomb Threat Reported on IndiGo Flight at Kolkata Airport

A bomb scare was reported on an IndiGo flight at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Saturday morning, prompting an immediate security response and temporary disruption to operations.

IndiGo flight 6E3074, scheduled to depart at 9:15am IST for Shillong, was moved to an isolation bay after a handwritten threat note was discovered on board. According to the Kolkata Airport Director, the note was found during boarding inside a toilet compartment of the aircraft. The message indicated that there was a bomb on the plane.

Passengers were swiftly removed from the aircraft as a precaution. Security agencies began standard checks in line with established aviation safety protocols. Airport officials said further details would be shared after preliminary assessments were completed.

The aircraft was taken to a designated isolation area to allow security teams to carry out a thorough inspection without affecting other airport operations. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any suspicious items were found.

The incident follows a similar episode last month involving another IndiGo service. On January 23, IndiGo flight 6E 2608, operating from Delhi to Pune, received a bomb threat after landing at Pune Airport. In that case, a handwritten note was also discovered in the aircraft’s lavatory.

The Delhi-Pune flight landed safely at 9:24pm, later than its scheduled 8:40pm arrival, and was parked at Bay No. 3. Air Traffic Control informed Apron Control about the threat, after which the aircraft was moved to the isolation bay. Relevant agencies were alerted, and the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee was convened.

A detailed inspection was carried out by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad. Officials later confirmed that no suspicious objects were found and that the aircraft was cleared for normal operations. The situation was described as having been handled in a coordinated and timely manner, with no injuries reported.

Aviation authorities in India have been on alert following a series of hoax bomb threats targeting airlines in recent months. Airlines typically respond by activating emergency procedures, evacuating passengers when necessary and conducting full aircraft sweeps to ensure safety.

Passengers affected by Saturday’s incident in Kolkata were expected to be accommodated on alternate arrangements once security checks were completed. Officials have reiterated that passenger safety remains the top priority in such situations.
