Apple is reportedly planning a major redesign for its upcoming iPhone 17 lineup, according to newly leaked mockups. The video, shared by YouTuber iDeviceHelp in collaboration with leaker Majin Bu, suggests a significant departure from Apple’s current design approach. The renders, which are said to be based on internal Apple documents, align with recent reports from multiple sources, including Apple supply chain analysts.
Pro Models to Feature a New Camera Bar
One of the most noticeable changes in the iPhone 17 Pro models is the shift from the traditional square camera bump to a streamlined aluminum camera bar spanning the width of the device. This new design marks a significant departure from Apple’s familiar look and is expected to give the Pro models a fresh, distinctive appearance.
Meanwhile, the base iPhone 17 is expected to maintain the camera design language introduced in the iPhone 16 series, further distinguishing the standard models from the Pro variants.
iPhone 17 Air to Replace Plus Model
Another significant change in Apple’s lineup is the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air, which is set to replace the Plus variant. The mockups indicate that button placements will remain consistent with the iPhone 16 models. The iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch display, positioning it between the base iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro Max in terms of size.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet, measuring just 5.5mm at its thinnest point. However, the rear camera bump will add some thickness.
Shift in Materials Across the Lineup
Apple is also making a notable shift in materials for the iPhone 17 series, according to supply chain analyst Jeff Pu. The iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max will all feature aluminum frames, while the iPhone 17 Air will be constructed from titanium—a material previously reserved for Pro models. This move is part of Apple’s effort to enhance durability while considering environmental impact.
Anticipation Builds for September Announcement
While these leaked mockups provide an exciting glimpse into the possible design of the iPhone 17 lineup, the final details will remain unconfirmed until Apple’s official announcement. The company is expected to unveil the new iPhones in September, following its traditional launch schedule. Until then, anticipation continues to grow for what could be one of Apple’s most innovative iPhone releases in years.
