Apple to Restrict Launch Day Purchases of iPhone 17 in UAE to Pre-Orders Only

Apple is changing its long-standing retail tradition in the UAE with the launch of the iPhone 17 series, set for Friday, September 19. For the first time in recent memory, customers will not be able to walk into Apple Stores and purchase the new devices on launch day without a prior reservation.

The new rule applies across the full iPhone 17 lineup — the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Last year, buyers could still reserve a device online and finalize the purchase in-store on release day. This year, Apple has tightened the process further.

To collect a device on September 19, customers must pre-order through Apple’s UAE website and select the “Pick up in Store” option at checkout. Only those with confirmed reservations will be able to collect their phones on launch day. Buyers will need to present a valid ID and an Apple-issued pickup pass, usually sent via email or the Apple Store app, when arriving at the store.

The decision reflects Apple’s attempt to manage demand at its high-traffic UAE retail outlets, such as Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates, where long overnight queues have become a familiar sight during past iPhone launches. Apple’s controlled pickup system is designed to prevent overcrowding and streamline the release-day experience.

Pricing in the UAE

Apple has announced the following starting prices for the new series:

  • iPhone 17 – Dh3,399 with 256GB base storage

  • iPhone 17 Air – Dh4,299, replacing the previous Plus model

  • iPhone 17 Pro – Dh4,699, with higher base storage and a slight price increase

  • iPhone 17 Pro Max – Dh5,099, unchanged from last year

Where to Collect Pre-Orders

Customers will be able to collect their new devices from Apple’s official UAE stores, including The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi, and Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi. Availability of models at each location will be displayed during the online checkout process.

Once the order is ready, Apple will notify customers with collection details. The company recommends bringing the confirmation code and valid identification to avoid delays.

By enforcing online reservations for launch-day collections, Apple is signaling a shift away from the spectacle of long in-store queues that have traditionally accompanied its flagship releases. While the new policy may disappoint some fans hoping to buy the device on impulse, it ensures a smoother rollout for both staff and customers across the UAE.
