Apple Plots Major Expansion in Wearables with Seven New Head-Mounted Devices by 2030

Despite a recent slowdown in media buzz around the Vision Pro headset, Apple is far from stepping back from the wearables race. The company is reportedly working on an ambitious roadmap that includes seven head-mounted devices, set to roll out through 2030, according to a new report by prominent Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo says Apple continues to view head-mounted devices as “the next major trend in consumer electronics,” with plans to cover both high-end extended reality (XR) products and more affordable smart wearables. While the current $3,499 Vision Pro has seen a decline in public attention, it remains a key part of Apple’s strategy. A new version is reportedly entering mass production in the third quarter of 2025, featuring an upgraded M5 chip but maintaining a similar design and feature set—suggesting only modest enhancements in the near term.

Looking further ahead, Apple may be aiming to broaden its market reach with a product known as the Vision Air, expected in 2027. The Vision Air is designed to be significantly lighter—up to 40%—by replacing premium materials like titanium with magnesium alloy and trimming back on high-end sensors. The headset will reportedly run on the same chip as the flagship iPhone of that year and is expected to come with a lower price tag, making it more accessible to everyday consumers.

In parallel, Apple is also preparing to launch its own version of smart glasses in 2027, potentially rivaling Meta’s Ray-Ban collaboration. Kuo suggests the glasses will feature voice control, gesture input, audio playback, and AI-based environmental sensing—but no displays. Instead, they are designed to integrate seamlessly into daily life, acting like an enhanced version of AirPods with added intelligence.

Apple is also said to be developing XR Glasses with LCoS displays and immersive capabilities, though details and a launch date remain under wraps. A more affordable successor to the Vision Pro is also in development but is not expected to hit the market before late 2028.

Meanwhile, a display-tethered accessory, once planned as part of the Vision Max project, has reportedly been shelved but not entirely scrapped.

Five of the seven planned head-mounted products have confirmed production timelines, most of them clustered around 2027—suggesting a significant year ahead for Apple in the AR/VR and wearable tech space. However, the company faces increasing competition from tech giants like Meta and Xiaomi, both of whom are already releasing second- or third-generation smart wearables.

Apple’s Vision Pro launched in the UAE in November 2024, with prices starting at Dh13,999. It is available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB versions and can be purchased online, via the Apple Store app, or in retail stores.
