Apple Plans Major U.S. Investment, Says Trump

President Donald Trump announced on Friday that Apple intends to invest “hundreds of billions of dollars” in the United States, citing the success of his administration’s tariff policies in bolstering the American economy.

Speaking to a gathering of state governors at the White House, Trump shared details of a recent meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook. “Yesterday I had Tim Cook in the office from Apple. He’s investing hundreds of billions of dollars… That’s what he told me. Now he has to do it,” Trump stated.

However, Apple has yet to confirm any such large-scale investment. Cook, who heads the Silicon Valley tech giant, has not publicly announced plans matching the figure cited by Trump.

The president also suggested that other companies are planning to increase their investments in the United States, although he did not provide specific names. “We’re going to have a lot of chip makers coming in and a lot of automakers coming in,” Trump said, hinting that at least one company had recently reconsidered plans to build two factories in Mexico. “They’re going to build here instead because they don’t want to pay the tariffs,” he added.

Trump’s administration has employed tariffs—taxes on imported goods—as a key component of its trade strategy. The government has imposed 10 percent tariffs on goods from China and has threatened similar measures on products such as semiconductors, cars, and pharmaceuticals. The White House contends that these higher costs incentivize companies to manufacture domestically, strengthening the U.S. economy.

Critics of the administration’s tariff policies argue that the additional costs could lead to higher prices for American consumers. Despite the controversy, Trump remains confident that the tariffs will encourage more companies to invest within the United States.

As of now, Apple has not issued any statements regarding the potential investment mentioned by Trump, leaving the extent of the company’s future commitments in the United States unclear.
