Al Shahania Stuns Al Gharafa with 3-0 Victory in Qatar Stars League

Al Shahania produced one of the season’s biggest shocks as they defeated league leaders Al Gharafa 3-0 at Al Khor Stadium on Saturday, in the first round of matches after the international break.

The match started with a strong statement from the visiting team, as Mohammed Bader Sayyar opened the scoring in the fourth minute. The early goal unsettled Al Gharafa, forcing the league leaders to push forward in search of an equaliser. Shahania’s defence remained resolute, and the underdogs struck again in the 22nd minute, with Sayyar scoring his second of the match to put his team in a commanding position.

Despite controlling possession for large periods, Al Gharafa struggled to create clear chances. Shahania maintained their composure and extended their lead in the 64th minute when Lotfi Rabah Madjer netted the third goal. The strike capped a dominant display from the bottom-placed side and secured a memorable victory.

The result moved Al Shahania up to 11th place in the Qatar Stars League with seven points, giving them a significant morale boost as they aim to climb the standings. Al Gharafa, despite the setback, remain at the top with 25 points, holding a four-point lead over second-placed Al Shamal, and have played one more game than their closest rivals.

After the match, Madjer praised his team’s performance, highlighting the players’ belief and effort. “We entered the match believing in ourselves, and every player delivered,” he said. “We showed that Al Shahania are a respectable team capable of competing with any side in the league.”

Madjer also acknowledged the influence of the coaching staff in keeping the team focused. “The coach asked us to continue with the same approach we showed in the first half, and we stuck to the plan. We hope to carry this performance forward in the coming matches,” he added.

The victory provides a significant boost to Al Shahania’s confidence as they prepare for upcoming fixtures, while Al Gharafa will be looking to regroup quickly and respond in their next league matches.
