Three members of a Fujairah family have been confirmed dead following a devastating road accident in southern Oman. The victims were identified as Rashid Gharib Al Yamahi, a 25-year-old police officer, his wife Jawaher Mohammed Al Yamahi, 21, and her mother Khadija Ali Al Yamahi, 51. The family was on a summer trip to Salalah when the tragedy occurred just 12 hours after leaving the UAE.
The crash, which took place on Friday morning on Sultan Said bin Taimur Road in Dhofar, involved three vehicles and resulted in five fatalities, including two Omani nationals. According to Omani authorities, 11 people were injured, nine of them Emiratis — five of whom are children.
Rashid Al Yamahi served as a First Corporal at the correctional and punitive establishment of Fujairah Police. His eight-month-old daughter remains hospitalised in Oman, while other injured family members were transferred to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Fujairah for further treatment. Those receiving care include Ali Al Yamahi, his wife Shaikha Al Sareedi, and their children Dalal (4), Mohammed (7), and Khadija (1), along with Ali’s younger siblings Sabiha (15) and Hamad (18).
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the injured were airlifted back to the UAE after receiving emergency treatment in Oman. The evacuation and repatriation process was coordinated by the Ministry in partnership with the National Search and Rescue Centre, the UAE Armed Forces, and the UAE Embassy in Muscat.
The victims’ bodies were returned to the UAE and buried in Dibba Fujairah on Saturday. Funeral prayers were held at Abdul Rahman Al Nasser Mosque, followed by burial at Al Ghub cemetery. A large number of mourners gathered to pay their final respects.
Gharib Al Yamahi, father of the deceased police officer, expressed his grief in a statement to Al Khaleej newspaper. “Despite the pain of loss and the shock of their passing, I believe in God’s will and destiny. Death is a truth we all face, and all we can do is pray for their forgiveness and the recovery of the injured,” he said.
Fujairah Police expressed their sorrow over the loss of First Corporal Rashid Al Yamahi in an official statement, offering condolences to the bereaved family and praying for peace for his soul.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged citizens to exercise caution during road travel and to comply with all local traffic laws, especially when driving abroad.
