PayLater, one of Qatar’s leading Buy Now Pay Later providers, has reaffirmed its commitment to responsible digital finance, highlighting transparency, financial education and flexible payment options as the sector continues to expand.
The company said it operates within Qatar’s regulatory and legal frameworks and aims to balance financial innovation with consumer protection and long-term financial wellbeing.
“Trust in financial services is earned through transparency, consistency, and a genuine commitment to serving people responsibly,” said Dr Devid Jegerson, Chief Executive Officer of PayLater.
“Our focus has always been to provide customers with clear information and practical solutions that empower them to make informed financial decisions,” he added.
PayLater said customers are provided with information about payment schedules, contractual obligations and their rights before entering into financial agreements. The company also said its products and practices are aligned with principles of ethical and Islamic finance, supporting responsible borrowing and wider access to financial services.
The provider said it takes a flexible approach when customers face unexpected financial difficulties. Its support model focuses on communication with customers, understanding their circumstances and exploring possible restructuring options or extended payment arrangements.
The company’s Chief Operating Officer said each customer faced different financial circumstances and that the priority was to engage with them and find practical ways to help them meet their obligations.
PayLater said legal action is considered only in a limited number of cases and after communication and restructuring efforts have been exhausted. Any legal proceedings, it said, are conducted in line with Qatari law and applicable financial regulations.
The company also pointed to recent court rulings in Qatar that have reaffirmed the binding nature of BNPL agreements. PayLater said the decisions highlighted the importance of responsible financial conduct in protecting consumers, merchants and the wider digital finance ecosystem.
The company acknowledged the role of Ali Al-Baker Law Firm and Legal Consultations, its main legal partner, in providing specialised legal advice and frameworks related to technology and financial technology.
PayLater said the legal support helps ensure that procedures are handled transparently, proportionately and in compliance with Qatar’s legal requirements.
As Qatar continues its transition towards a digitally enabled economy, the company said it would focus on strengthening financial responsibility through clearer communication, accessible services and long-term relationships with customers, merchants and regulators.
The company said responsible lending and consumer protection would remain central to its approach as digital financial services become more widely used across the country.
