US President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran on Friday, saying the United States would launch an overwhelming military response if Tehran attempted or succeeded in carrying out an assassination against a sitting American president.
In a message posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said the US military had already been placed on alert and would respond with massive force if any threat against him were carried out.
“One thousand missiles are locked and loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands more ready to follow immediately,” Trump wrote. He said the response would be triggered if the Iranian government acted on what he described as threats made in different parts of the world to assassinate the president of the United States.
Trump added that military orders had already been issued and that American forces were prepared to carry out operations against Iran for a one-year period, with the option to extend that timeframe if necessary.
“The US military is ready, willing and able to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran,” he wrote.
The comments came as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high following renewed hostilities in the Middle East. Relations have deteriorated in recent weeks after both countries exchanged military actions, raising concerns about the possibility of a wider regional conflict.
